Privacy policy

This page states exactly what we collect, why, and what we never collect.

Locations

Most intermediaries work from home, so we never store a precise location: the coordinate is displaced 300 to 800 metres in a random direction before it is saved, and the true point never reaches the database at all.

There is no column that can leak and no backup that contains it. Distances are computed from the displaced point and rounded, because a precise distance read from several positions can reconstruct the original location.

Photos

EXIF data is stripped from every image before storage, without exception. Phone photos carry GPS coordinates, and a product photographed at an intermediary home would defeat every location rule above if stored as it arrived.

Phone numbers

Your number is never shown to anyone and never appears in any page. If you enable the WhatsApp button, it opens WhatsApp for signed-in buyers only; the number stays on the server, so no one receives it and no one can harvest numbers from outside.

Stories

When a visitor who is not signed in watches a story for the first time, her browser creates a random id and keeps it in its own storage, so it can remember which stories she has watched on this device. It carries no name, number or anything else about her, and it is sent only with story requests.

Conversations

Your conversations are stored on our servers and shown to no one but the people in them. The Wasitati team can open a conversation when it has been reported, to settle a dispute between a buyer and an intermediary, or to stop fraud. Every such access is logged with who opened it and when, and it sends no read receipt to either side.

When the Wasitati team writes to you, it arrives as an ordinary conversation marked with a “Wasitati team” badge. Any other account speaking for the platform without that badge is not us.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from settings. Your name, number, email and photos are hidden from everyone immediately, on every page of Wasitati and in the app. We keep the photos rather than delete them, and they are shown to no one on Wasitati, though a copy someone saved earlier, on their device or on another website, is beyond our reach. The payment receipts you sent stay with the Wasitati team only, because they are the record of the money we received. Aggregate review counts remain, because deleting them would let anyone erase their record and re-register with the same number.
